Norwegian pronunciation practice: what this lesson covers
This free listening lesson is part of the Mondosol Learn to speak Norwegian course. The player reads every word aloud, so you can listen and repeat the everyday words that learners most often mispronounce because the spelling points the wrong way: jeg, det, og, rødt, tjue and more.
What you will learn
- jeg — said yai.
- meg, deg, seg — said mai, dai, sai.
- det — silent t: de.
- og — usually said å.
- rødt — dt said as t: røtt.
- tjue — tj sounds like kj.
- sjokolade — sj sounds like sh.
- Hvordan har du det? — vordan har du de.
Practice questions
- How is “jeg” usually pronounced? (with a hard g, yai, like English jag)
- In “det”, the t is… (strong, rolled, silent)
- “og” usually sounds like… (å, og with a hard g, ok)
- “tjue” starts with the same sound as… (tog, sjokolade, kjøre)
How the lesson works
Start with the flashcards: tap to flip, listen, and say each word out loud. Then practise the same words in quick rounds — listen and tap the right picture, match the pairs, build the sentence, listen and type — before a short quiz with hearts. A wrong answer costs a heart; at the end you can practise your mistakes or restart. Finish to earn XP and keep your daily streak alive.
Why it matters
Words like jeg, det and og appear in almost every Norwegian sentence. Saying them the way Norwegians do is the quickest way to sound more natural and to recognise them when people speak fast.
