Norwegian months and dates: birthdays, years and the clock
This lesson builds on numbers 1–12 and the basic dates lesson. You learn how to write the months, ask and answer about birthdays with ordinal dates, say a year, plan by week number and read times like 14.30 and fem på halv tre the way Norwegians say them.
What you will learn
- januar, februar, mars — January, February, March (lowercase)
- Når har du bursdag? — When is your birthday?
- Jeg har bursdag den tredje mars — My birthday is on 3 March
- i 2026 — in 2026 (tjuetjueseks or to tusen og tjueseks)
- uke 41 — week 41
- klokka 14.30 — half past two in the afternoon, said halv tre
- fem på halv tre — 2:25
- om sommeren — in summer

How the lesson works
Start with the flashcards: each card shows one item with a picture cue and a short tip. Then you listen and tap the right picture, match words to meanings, say each one out loud, build the sentence from word tiles, and listen and type what you hear. Finish with the quiz: a wrong answer costs a heart, and at the end you can practise your mistakes or restart the lesson. Completing the lesson earns XP and keeps your daily streak alive.
Why it matters
Appointments, school letters and work plans in Norway often say uke 41 instead of a date, and timetables use the 24-hour clock while people speak with halv and på. Knowing both ways keeps you on time.
