🇳🇴 Norwegian Lesson 6: Shopping & Money

Norwegian money words for the checkout

This lesson takes you through paying in a Norwegian shop: the currency, the total, the bag question, the loyalty card, cash versus Vipps, the bottle deposit and special offers. For asking prices and numbers, see Shopping and Numbers; for trying on clothes, see the A1 Shopping lesson.

What you will learn

  • en krone, to kroner — one krone, two kroner (kr, NOK)
  • Det blir 89 kroner — That comes to 89 kroner
  • Trenger du pose? — Do you need a bag?
  • Har du medlemskort? — Do you have a loyalty card?
  • kontanter — cash
  • Bare Vipps meg! — Just send me the money with Vipps
  • pant — bottle deposit
  • tilbud — special offer

Practice questions

  1. What is pant? Options: a loyalty card, a bottle deposit, a receipt.
  2. The cashier says “Det blir 89 kroner”. It means… Options: That comes to 89 kroner, It is 89 kroner cheaper, You get 89 kroner back.
  3. Trenger du pose? means… Options: Do you need a receipt?, Do you have cash?, Do you need a bag?
  4. A friend says “Bare Vipps meg!” What do you do? Options: Pay in cash, Send the money with the Vipps app, Give them your card.

How the lesson works

Start with the flashcards: each card shows one item with a picture cue and a short tip. Then you listen and tap the right picture, match words to meanings, say each one out loud, build the sentence from word tiles, and listen and type what you hear. Finish with the quiz: a wrong answer costs a heart, and at the end you can practise your mistakes or restart the lesson. Completing the lesson earns XP and keeps your daily streak alive.

Why it matters

The checkout is one of the first places you speak Norwegian every week. The cashier’s questions come fast and always in the same order, so once you recognise pose, medlemskort and Det blir, you can answer without switching to English.
