🇬🇧 English Lesson: At the Station

Asking for help in English when you travel: what this lesson covers

This free interactive A1 lesson in the Mondosol English course teaches eight phrases for asking for help in English at a train station: getting attention politely, finding your platform, checking your train, buying a ticket, understanding delays, reporting lost luggage and saying thank you. Everything runs in your browser, so you can practise on your phone before your trip.

What you will learn

  • Excuse me — the polite way to get a stranger's attention
  • Where is the platform? — asking where your train leaves from
  • Does this train go to Oxford? — checking you are on the right train
  • A return ticket, please — a ticket there and back; a single is one way only
  • delayed — later than planned; cancelled means not running at all
  • I've lost my luggage — reporting missing bags; luggage has no plural
  • Could you help me, please? — asking for help politely
  • Thank you so much! — thanking someone warmly

How the lesson works

Each card shows one phrase with a picture cue and a short explanation; tap it to hear the English. Then you learn by doing: listen and tap the right picture, match pictures with phrases, say it out loud, answer a short quiz where a wrong answer costs a heart, build a sentence and listen and type. At the end you earn Mondi, keep your daily streak alive and can practise your mistakes or restart the lesson.

Why asking for help in English matters

Stations and airports are where travellers most often need English, and usually in a hurry. With a polite Excuse me and a clear question you can find the right platform, catch the right train and sort out a delay or lost bag without stress.
