What you will learn
- Tilhรธrighet โ Belonging โ a studentโs felt sense of being accepted, valued and connected to classmates and staff. In practice, schools that build belonging see better attendance, motivation and learning, and less bullying.
- Inkludering โ Inclusion โ from August 2024 the law explicitly says the school environment must promote inclusion, not just the absence of bullying. Every student should take part in the class community on equal terms.
- ยง9A (kap. 12) โ Every studentโs legal right to a safe and good school environment (Opplรฆringslova ยง9A, now Chapter 12). It protects both the physical and the psychosocial environment.
- Psykososialt miljรธ โ The psychosocial environment โ relationships, belonging and emotional safety. The law protects how students feel together, not only the building they sit in.
- Nulltoleranse โ Zero tolerance โ schools must have zero tolerance for bullying, violence, discrimination and harassment. A daily culture of belonging is the prevention work behind this rule.
- Elevens opplevelse โ The studentโs own experience is decisive. If a student does not feel safe and included, the environment is not โgood enoughโ in law, regardless of staff intentions.
- Relasjonskompetanse โ Relational competence โ the teacherโs ability to build warm, fair, trusting relationships. Research shows strong teacher-student relationships are the biggest single driver of belonging.
