Norwegian culture: what this Norwegian lesson covers

What you will learn
- Janteloven — The unwritten Law of Jante: do not think you are better than others. It shapes Norway's modest, equal style.
- friluftsliv — Outdoor life: hiking, skiing and cabin trips are part of everyday culture.
- allemannsretten — The right to roam: you may walk and camp in uncultivated nature, as long as you show respect.
- kos — Cosiness: candles, warm drinks and time together, especially in the dark winter.
- matpakke — A packed lunch of open sandwiches that many Norwegians bring to work or school.
- syttende mai — 17 May, Constitution Day, celebrated with children's parades, flags and bunad.
- hytta — The cabin: many families have or borrow a hytte in the mountains or by the sea.
- Takk for maten — Thanks for the food: said to the host after every meal.
