📝 Grammar: Talking About Dates

Days of the week are NOT capitalized in Italian!
Che giorno è oggi? = What day is today?
Oggi è lunedì. = Today is Monday.
Domani è martedì. = Tomorrow is Tuesday.
Ieri era domenica. = Yesterday was Sunday.

Dates: Quant’è oggi? = What’s the date today?
È il tre marzo. = It’s March 3rd.
Il mio compleanno è il venti giugno. = My birthday is June 20th.

Seasons: primavera (spring) • estate (summer) • autunno (autumn) • inverno (winter)

💡 Tip: Italian months are NOT capitalized either! Ho il compleanno in luglio = My birthday is in July.

💬 Dialogue: Making Plans

Chiara: Ciao Matteo! Cosa fai questo fine settimana?
Matteo: Sabato vado al mercato e domenica sono a casa. E tu?
Chiara: Lunedì ho una riunione importante. Ma venerdì siamo liberi!
Matteo: Perfetto! Quando è il tuo compleanno, Chiara?
Chiara: È il quindici agosto — ferragosto! Un giorno di festa!

Translation: “Hi Matteo! What are you doing this weekend?” / “Saturday I’m going to the market and Sunday I’m home. And you?” / “Monday I have an important meeting. But Friday we’re free!” / “Perfect! When is your birthday, Chiara?” / “It’s August 15th — Ferragosto! A holiday!”
