What you will learn

  • en kollega — A colleague. The plural is kolleger.
  • en sjef — A boss or manager. Most Norwegians call their sjef by first name.
  • et møte — A meeting: Vi har møte klokka ni. (We have a meeting at nine.)
  • en søknad — A job application: å søke på en jobb means to apply for a job.
  • et jobbintervju — A job interview.
  • en arbeidskontrakt — An employment contract. In Norway you have the right to a written one.
  • en lønn — Salary or wages. Most people in Norway are paid once a month.
  • en frist — A deadline: Fristen er fredag. (The deadline is Friday.)

Practice questions

  1. What is “et møte”? Options: a deadline, a meeting, a salary.
  2. What is “en søknad”? Options: a colleague, an interview, an application.
  3. “Fristen er fredag” means… Options: The deadline is Friday, The meeting is Friday, Friday is a day off.
  4. What is “en sjef”? Options: a contract, a colleague, a boss.

How the lesson works
