What you will learn
- Jeg skal reise i morgen. — Skal + infinitive is a plan or decision: I am going to travel tomorrow.
- Det kommer til å regne. — Kommer til å + infinitive is a prediction you do not control: It is going to rain.
- Jeg vil lære norsk. — Vil means want to, not will: I want to learn Norwegian. A classic trap for English speakers.
- Vi reiser på fredag. — Present tense plus a time word also talks about the future: We are leaving on Friday.
- Jeg skal på kino i kveld. — With skal you can drop the movement verb: I am going to the cinema tonight.
- neste uke — Next week: Vi ses neste uke. (See you next week.)
- om to dager — Om + a time means in, counted from now: om to dager = in two days.
- snart — Snart means soon: Vi ses snart! (See you soon!)

Making plans, booking things and talking about the weather all need the future. Skal and kommer til å cover most situations, and knowing that vil means want saves you from a common mistake.
