Norwegian work vocabulary: what this Norwegian lesson covers
This free interactive lesson on Norwegian work vocabulary is part of the Mondosol Norwegian course. In about ten minutes you will meet 10 essential words and phrases about work and school, hear how they are used, and test yourself with a short quiz. Everything on this page runs in your browser, so you can practise Norwegian work vocabulary on your phone, tablet or laptop without installing anything.
What you will learn
- jobb — job / work — Norwegians famously prize arbeidsliv (work-life) balance and rarely stay late at kontoret
- skole — school — Norwegian children start skole at age six and call teachers by their first name
- kollega — colleague — Norwegian workplaces are famously flat; even the sjef goes by their first name
- lærer — teacher — Norway’s lærere are highly trusted and stress student independence over rote learning
- møte — meeting — Norwegian møter start on time and rarely run long; punctuality is a point of pride
- student — student — higher education is largely tuition-free for Norwegian and EU/EEA studenter
- kontor — office — many Norwegians now split the week with hjemmekontor (home office) days
- vanskelig — difficult — handy for describing a tricky fag (subject) at skole or a tough day at jobb
- Jeg jobber på kontoret — I work at the office — the everyday sentence for saying where you work.

How the lesson works
Each card shows one word with an emoji cue and a clear translation. Tap the card to flip it, say the word out loud, and move on when it feels familiar. After the cards you answer a three-question quiz on Norwegian work vocabulary; a wrong answer costs a heart, and if you run out you can restart the lesson for free. Finish all the cards and the quiz to earn XP and keep your daily streak alive, exactly like a language app but built around real Norwegian situations.
Why Norwegian work vocabulary matters
Work and school are the two places where newcomers to Norway spend most of their time. Being able to name your job, your colleagues and your daily tasks in Norwegian opens doors at interviews, helps you follow meetings and makes it easier to join in when parents or classmates chat about school.
