Lesson 3: Numbers and Counting

Spanish numbers are needed from the moment you arrive: paying, reading a platform, giving a phone number, understanding how long a wait will be.

What you will learn in this lesson

You start with uno to cinco, the range you need for ordering and small purchases, then add the anchors diez, veinte and cien. Spanish numbers are highly regular, so once you hold these eight the ones in between follow a pattern you can rebuild rather than memorise.

  • uno 1️⃣ — one
  • dos 2️⃣ — two
  • tres 3️⃣ — three
  • cuatro 4️⃣ — four
  • cinco 5️⃣ — five
  • diez 🔟 — ten
  • veinte 🔢 — twenty
  • cien 💯 — one hundred

Why Spanish numbers matter

Numbers are the one part of a language you cannot bluff your way through. You can smile past a misunderstood sentence, but misheard prices cost you money. They are also the fastest possible confidence win, because the rules are consistent and the payoff is immediate.

Practice questions

The interactive card above ends with a short quiz. Here are the questions so you can review them afterwards — try to answer before checking the word in brackets.

  • What number is “cinco”? (Five)
  • How do you say “ten”? (diez)
  • What does “cien” mean? (One hundred)
  • Which word means “three”? (tres)

How to practise

Say prices in Spanish before translating them back to your own language. Repeat the card once a day for three days: short, frequent sessions beat one long session. Every completed lesson earns you 10 Mondi, and finishing the quiz earns 20 more.
